Accommodation at the Ptea Teuk Dong "Tree-House-Coconut" is basic, yet functional and certainly sufficient for most. Rooms, built specifically for western visitors, are set in simple, stilted wooden houses, each equipped with a fan, full bed complete with mosquito nets and a separate bathroom on the ground floor. There is an onsite restaurant, staff by the women being assisted by the centre and with much of the food sourced from the onsite organic gardens.
Ptea Teuk Dong is a non-profit organisation founded in 1994 with the purpose of helping former street families to become self-reliant and earn a dependable income through various skills training provided at the centre. The team also assists with emergency food & shelter programmes as well as providing healthcare. In addition to assistance with education and vocational training, the centre aims to provide the necessary schooling materials to assist children in attending local schools, a key part of their reintegration programme, assisting families with their move into local communities. The final step is the provision of a plot of land, a house and other essential starting materials.
